I bring you the sad news that Lorraine Goldfoot, cousin Nathan Bernard Goldfoot's wife, passed away in Assisted Living on March 3, 2026. She had had many falls which may have done more damage than expected.

Lorraine (Leah) was born on July 1, 1940 in Portland, Oregon, so was 85 years, 8 months, 2 days at death. My father, Maurice Goldfoot, was also born on July 1st. We found out much later when taking DNA tests that Lorraine and I were 4th cousins.
Lorraine's parents were Harry Shleifman/Slifman and Frances Stein.

Chazen in synaogues, beautiful voice. A Chazen or Cantor is the singer of all our prayers. He leads us in the singing of them. They have beautiful melodies and may be sad or happy. That gift of singing was passed onto Lorraine who sang in Portland and was well known.
This must be about Lorraine's mother.

Frances Stein Slifman 1913-2004
Frances Stein Slifman was born on March 8, 1913 in Portland, Oregon. Her family came to Portland from Odessa in 1910-11 and settled near her father’s family. A fruit and vegetable salesman, her father, Samuel Stein, eventually opened a grocery store in South Portland where she was raised in a complex, vibrant Jewish community, attended public school, and participated in a local synagogue and Neighborhood House. After working at a saleswoman in a downtown store, she met and married Harry Kolman Slifman in 1933 and became a housewife. She and her husband had three children: Gary, Lorraine, and Marv. Frances was a member of the South Parkway Club, the Sisterhood, and the PTA.

Lorraine told me how her parents danced a lot. That was their passion. They went out dancing. Lorraine had huge black and white framed pictures of her family in her home. She was very proud of her family. Being I'm an amateur genealogist, I was proud of her having all these memories .
